About The Artrist

The Artist

Edward Smith was born and brought up in the busy fishing town of Buckie on the Moray Firth Coast of Scotland. The traditional fishing boats of the area have provided life long inspiration for his artistic work.

Edward Smith trained in Graphic Design at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen and went on to a career in Education. Since graduating in 1965 Edward has exhibited paintings and prints throughout the United Kingdom, and has work in private and public collections around the world.

Edward first began making model boats thirty years ago as toys for his three young children. Since then the models have developed into a range for adult collectors. The models are now sold in museum shops, art galleries and design-led gift shops across the United Kingdom.

Edward Smith began his series of Fishing Boat Prints in order to capture and record the declining Scottish Fishing fleet, of which no other such visual record exists.

In recent years the fleet has been reduced in size. Some boats have been laid up, some sold off. Sadly, many have been decommissioned and destroyed. The main casualities have been those sturdy wooden-hulled vessels built in the 1940s and 1950s.

Edwards Smith's range of Fishing Boat Models and Prints together provide a lasting tribute to history and craftsmanship o f the fishing industry in North East Scotland.
